I’m running because I believe in public education—and I believe we can do better. With more transparency, smarter spending, and a relentless focus on outcomes, we can get our schools back on track. As both a scientist and a father, I’m ready to bring real solutions, clear priorities, and community-driven leadership to the APS School Board.

🧬 WHO I AM
I’m David Ams—father, scientist, and believer in the power of education.
I’m the proud parent of two daughters and the current PTA president at their elementary school. Raised in a working-class family, I know the life-changing power of a strong public education. It was dedicated teachers and caring school leaders who believed in me and helped me earn a PhD in chemistry and build a career at our National Labs.
Today, I bring both a scientist’s precision and a parent’s passion to the challenges facing our schools. I live in Northeast Albuquerque with my wife, and our daughters, and I’m committed to building an education system where every child, in every neighborhood, has the opportunity to thrive.

I’ll work to ensure every child can read confidently by third grade—because literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning.

I’ll champion programs that give students real-world skills and access to living-wage careers after graduation.
Foster Student Mindsets for Success
I’ll support efforts that build perseverance, self-regulation, and confidence—because students don’t just need academics to thrive, they need the habits and mindsets that lead to lifelong success.

From quality professional development to high-quality materials, I’ll fight to make sure educators are equipped and supported to drive learning.
Demand Smarter Spending
APS has a $2 billion budget—but voters don’t believe that money is being used effectively. I’ll push for greater transparency and ensure every dollar helps students succeed.
